Rural Development Project

UWAB initiated a community development project in the village of Lakshmipura and surrounding villages, close to Bangalore. With assistance from CAPART (Council for Advancement of People’s Action and Rural Technology, an agency of the Government of India) and SIDA (Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency) UWAB has built 59 model houses with toilets, a community centre, child care centres and a primary and middle school. In Lakshmipura, the UWAB was primarily involved in project management and funds allocation for building the community centre. However, we periodically visit the community; review the conditions and usage of the building. Based on inputs from community elders, we have conducted health-care workshops as well as carried out minor repairs on the building. This we do to ensure that the premises are used for community services, even though it was not a part of our original agenda and MoU.
