Appeal for Funds

UWAB makes an urgent appeal for funds from individuals, corporations and foundations to contribute towards the constructions costs of the Working Women’s Hostel in Indiranagar, Bangalore.

Your funds will ensure that generations of young women and girls in Bangalore will have a safe haven from which to access the ever widening scope of opportunities available to them. The Hostel represents a giant leap forward for these young women, many of whom have minimal education (ten years of schooling) and are the first in their homes to leave home in search of better opportunities. Often, the practical difficulties and high costs of making a living in a big city like Bangalore forces these women to return home, or worse still, are tricked into prostitution and other illegal means of livelihood.

Benefits of Contributing to UWAB

Value: All donations go directly towards construction costs. Since UWAB is an entirely volunteer-run organization there are no overhead costs.

Accountability: Money spent on construction will be accounted for by a professional firm of chartered accountants in UWAB’s annual financial audit.

Return on Investment: The Hostel is a capital investment in the long term viability of the community’s capacity to support newcomers from all sections of society. As with all infrastructure investments the return on investment can be best calculated in the long term and through, for example:

* The increased earning power of women residents due to access to better jobs and education.
* Greater savings due to reduced spending on housing and the multiplier effect of improved welfare of families of residents who benefit from savings.
* Potential to educate women residents on issues such as health, personal hygiene and good nutrition – lessons which can then be passed on to their families, even after they no longer reside in the Hostel. Experience has shown that when you educate a woman, you educate a family.
* Prospects for individual growth and development through association with other residents.

Donors are exempt from tax as per Section 80(G) of the Income Tax Act, India. Sponsorship opportunities, including naming of parts of the forthcoming Hostel after individual donors are available. Please contact us for more details.
