The University Women’s Association of Bangalore (UWAB) aims to conduct the first all India open quiz contest that will promote quizzing amongst women. UWAB is looking to make this an annual mega event starting 2010. The quiz is a fund-raiser for the Women’s Hostel project of the UWA of Bangalore.

Hi, I want to share the experience I had when I went to Dharmapuri district (Tamil Nadu). It was for a workshop, with an NGO called Vazhai ( www.vazhai.org )to support Chidren's education. There are Govt run schools, no fee was charged, books and uniforms issued for free, with free student bus passes.... Great, awesome... hey hold on... there is a problem... there are no teachers!!!! No teacher wants to work in these areas where their service are critically needed. Who cares??

When our little Gift and Thrift Centre opened, many members gifted things from good to great. Stuff that they felt would be of use to others; stuff that we could sell for a fine penny and help buy bricks for the new hostel project.

One such donation was a big ticket item, an Antique clock, donated by Shanta, made its was to the first online / e-auction conducted by Angela Roojimans.

Dear Members,

Over the past year we have made fair progress in our efforts to fund the new hostel project. Starting with an appeal to all members to contribute towards the building, floating the buy-a-brick campaign, to floating flyers at the UWA conference in Singapore, to approaching corporates, creating hand-shakes with funding agencies , applying for loans and grants and awards and to opening our Gift & Thrift Centre - 'ASPIRATIONS', we have made progress.
